MAVERICK’S “FARM GIRL IN NEW YORK” IS READY TO TAKE CENTER STAGE NEXT MONTH! *Spoiler Alert*

January 19th, 2011

Sam and Matt flee their small mid-western town for New York City, where hot girls roam the streets! After months of trying to pick up ladies and failing miserably, they come up with the idea to hold a fake audition to meet chicks. Hilarity ensues when dozens of sexy, talentless, babes show up and compete for a job that doesn t exist. However, when an out of town farm girl shows up for the audition they are instantly smitten. Will these phony auditions come in the way of them finding true love?

“Farm Girl in New York” is a buddy comedy similar to those from the 80′s. The film is about Sam who is an aspiring writer but he just can’t seem to get it on track, one day he goes home early to his Fiancé only to catch her with not one but two men. Upset and angry Sam calls off the wedding and spends the day with his womanizing, half wit friend, Matt who always seems to have some sort of scheme going. When Matt finds two tickets to NY that Sam was going to use for his honeymoon he talks Sam into using them to go to the big apple for women and lots of partying. But things don’t work out the way Matt had planned so after a few months he comes up with another bright idea, hold fake auditions and have women come in and get naked and anything they can get them to do. Sam doesn’t like the idea but once the apartment begins to fill up with women Sam begins to think it all just might work until Mary shows up to audition, Sam seen her at a deli their first day in NY and was attracted to her right from the start. The problem is that there is no play so in order to keep Mary around Sam writes one about a Girl from the farm that heads to the big apple to pursue her dreams. As you might expect with these two guys things go from bad to worse and when Mary over hears the two talking about their made up plan she storms out and the production comes to a halt. Before Mary caught on Sam really wanted to tell her but never had the courage now he must find a way to get the play to the stage and win back his true love before he loses her forever.

There are other obstacles during the film like a plan to sabotage Mary from one of the other ladies who desperately wants the lead and some others which I won’t talk about since I already gave too much of the story away here as it is. The film provides the usual raunchy jokes and mishaps you might expect from a comedy like this but it also is touching as well.

The story is well-written and the two main characters are goofy but you can tell they are good guys at heart. the entire cast does a terrific job at playing these often off-the-wall characters.

“Farm Girl in New York” is a fun comedy/romance that is often hilarious but always entertaining. First time Director, J. Robert Spencer does a terrific job at keeping the film moving at a fast pace and mixing the comedy with the romance. The three main leads are wonderful including Jeffrey Schecter as Sam, Joshua Wade who is amazingly funny as Matt, he just about steals every scene he is in and Allison Munn as Mary. Allson is as talented as she is sweet and beautiful. All three have great chemistry together which is very important with a comedy such as this. I enjoyed this film much more than I expected and I think it will end up being a big hit on DVD from strong word of mouth when it is released on February 1, 2011.

The film has something to offer for both men and women so it makes for a good time either by yourself or cuddled up with the one you love. The DVD comes with Special Features that include: Deleted Scenes ,Blooper Reel , and Trailers.

I highly recommend this to any and all fans of the genre.

CHICKS LOVE GUYS WITH TALENT – FARM GIRL IN NEW YORK REVIEW

December 30th, 2010

I held the DVD Farm Girl in New York in my hands for just an extra moment, trying to predict what fine cinematic feature have I chosen this time? The title alone had my mind racing, but I didn’t want to spend too much time analyzing the plot. A self explanatory story with nothing to leave to the imagination, or so I thought. Sam is a stressed out writer who gets fired from his job a month before his wedding, only to come home and find out his fiancé is cheating on him. Ok, let’s be honest here. The script is campy but the story itself has several witty moments.

Sam decides to not waste his honeymoon, but invite his best friend Matt on a bus trip to the big apple.  Upon their unplanned agenda in New York City, Sam happens to notice a pretty girl while he and Matt are visiting a local diner. This is the Farm Girl I assume, which appears to have a strong resemblance to famed hottie Tara Reid. The main difference was the spark of innocence in farm girl’s eyes. Now out of respect her name is Mary, but she just does happen to be a farm girl trying to live out her dreams in NYC.

Many months later Matt comes up with a scheme to meet chicks by holding fake auditions for absolutely no purpose other than to meet them in hopes of hooking up. Matt is pretty successful in his mission, Sam- not so much. Coincidently Mary shows up for the audition and this is where the real fun begins. Sam is completely enamored by her performance, so now he and Matt must use one of Sam’s scripts to create fake rehearsals.

The movie become slightly intriguing with this kooky cast of characters, who all have no clue they’re just hanging out and reading one of Sam’s writing projects. As time passes by, Sam and Mary become better friends and spend more time together. Until, one day Mary walks in on a squabble between Sam and Matt and realizes the truth behind their acting outreach.

With every good romance, there comes a time to break up. Sam and Matt get the script embraced by a gay community; hence a real stage performance is born. Mary steps up to the plate and gets her chance to shine. Unfortunately, Allan, the main lead of the play gets hurt, so who better would know the lines than the writer to take over the part? The show must go on, and there’s not guessing on who is going to do it!

It is only in the meaning behind the words of Sam’s writing that he can confess his love for Mary. This movie has a happy ending like every other romantic comedy, but the difference is how they each get to that point. Maverick Entertainment chose to represent a short but sweet look at conquering love from a bumpy beginning to a warm and fuzzy ending. Curtain please.

MISBEHAVIOR OUT ON DVD!

December 16th, 2010

In an effort to break away from her mundane life, Stephanie sets her sights on seducing her handsome teacher, and finds that he has some stimulating secrets. Submission was the name of the game and Mr. Carling demands total control. But, soon their secret rendezvous go from lustful to a more dangerous place. Stephanie must choose if she is ready for the consequences of her misbehavior.

More a drama than a thriller, “Misbehavior” has an interesting story that keeps you entertained to the shocking ending. The story is about Stephanie who goes to a boarding school college, her and Erna are best friends but you also sense a bit of competition between the two over their crush on one of their teachers, Mr. Carling. When school lets out for Thanksgiving break Stephanie remembers after she gets home that she had a book out and promised Mr. Carling she would return it before leaving so she drives back to school but when she arrives she finds the teacher with her friend, he has her bent over his knee and is spanking her. Stephanie at the time gets more jealous than worried about her friend which seems a bit strange. There are a few things that are strange about what is going on and everyone seems to be hiding something including the security guard and Stephanie’s mother as well. Plus the security cameras in the school are in places they just should not be. The film keeps it’s sexual theme going pretty well considering there is no nudity in the film, in seems Mr. Carling has a weird fascination for handing out spankings but you also sense he can be dangerous as well. Another teacher at the school, Miss Lachance doesn’t like or trust Mr. Carling and she promises Stephanie’s father who is head of the board at the school to keep an eye out and make sure his daughter stays safe. There is a lot going on in the film, the obvious things I just told you about but there is also something else going on between a few of the other characters that don’t come to light till towards the end of the film. I thought it was those extra twists that kept the film from being just another drama, they give the film more suspense as you sit and wait to find out while hoping Mr. Carling gets what is coming to him as well.

“Misbehavior” does have it’s flaws but it has a story that is well-written and interesting enough to keep you watching till the very end. The acting here was a mixed bag, for the most part the leads did a fine job but their were a few performances that border on average at best. Director, Michel Zgarka who also co-wrote the script did a good job keeping everything moving at a nice pace while keeping the pieces of the puzzle together, this was his first time behind the camera and I thought he did a very good job over-all and it can only get better form here. I don’t think it is one of those films I would watch again but I was never bored during it’s 94 min. run time. If you like this kind of drama or are just looking for something different to watch for a change then I suggest giving it a try.

RAZORBLADE CITY OUT ON DVD TODAY!

December 7th, 2010

Don’t worry; you won’t need an Urban Dictionary to decipher this urban flick. Director Richard Johnson makes sure you understand every piece of slang and clearly defines the who’s who of Razorblade City.

From the opening scene we witness street hustlers, crooked cops, and cracked heads. Razorblade City is a wild place! The plot centers around a drug dealer, “Kingston”, that runs into trouble with two of Razorblade City’s most notorious gangsters, King Leroy & Machine Gun Milton.  After being framed for the murders of the gangsters’ loved ones, Kingston tries to lay low but it becomes impossible in a city of crime.

Even the women in Razorblade City are packing heat!  This movie took a twist from other urban films by introducing us to Trix and Flix – two sisters that were partners in crime with Kingston. With Kingston on the run and two people dead, it sets off a frenzy throughout the town.

Out of all the movies I’ve seen recently, this one introduced me to the most interesting characters. And it actually pulled off keeping my attention and keeping me on track with multiple characters and storylines.

This movie serves as a cautionary tale that “anything, absolutely anything can happen in Razorblade City.”

Review of the Urban Action film Razorblade City!

November 5th, 2010

As reality television continues to flood the airwaves, Razorblade City appears to offer a real life look inside a shoot em’ up gangster documentary. The soundtrack reflects words of wisdom about living a hard core life on the streets, and the flow of the music and its message are fluid throughout the film. I absolutely found entertainment in the character’s names like Fat Boys, Fly Ronnie Jones, King Leroy, Trix and Flix, Bling Bling and good ole Machine Gun Milton.

So the saying goes, it takes a village. Well, when one big time drug dealer’s son is accidentally shot in the head, you can bet someone is going to pay. There is this innate human nature to seek revenge when a loved one is hurt, and the strength behind these emotions are forceful. Our blood boils, our minds race with scenarios and ideas to impend harm. Bloodshed tears result in additional murders, like a domino effect on death.

Although this film has a typical setting of the low income jigsaw puzzle of the ghetto; curiosity creeps in with an invitation to watch cops try to unfold a wrinkled cover up of the initial killing. Cops play the game of befriending tattlers that are really just accomplices in this juncture. As the story line gets heated, I was tempted to shout out to the players like a fan at a sports event.  I had flashbacks of Boys n the Hood and New Jack City, but the cinematography of Razoblade was non-traditional and up close on many of the scenes. It was almost like I felt I was in the room or on the streets trying to survive the mayhem myself and not get caught.

If you enjoy the reckless toting guns, drugs and a whole lotta hip hop chatter; don’t miss out on Razoblade City. Maverick Entertainment always delivers a variety of movies, with a genre to meet everyone’s interest. Look out for more films coming your way soon, and enjoy a first look at some of the next big actors and actresses as they get their first break on the big screen with Maverick!
