I held the DVD Farm Girl in New York in my hands for just an extra moment, trying to predict what fine cinematic feature have I chosen this time? The title alone had my mind racing, but I didn’t want to spend too much time analyzing the plot. A self explanatory story with nothing to leave to the imagination, or so I thought. Sam is a stressed out writer who gets fired from his job a month before his wedding, only to come home and find out his fiancé is cheating on him. Ok, let’s be honest here. The script is campy but the story itself has several witty moments.
Sam decides to not waste his honeymoon, but invite his best friend Matt on a bus trip to the big apple. Upon their unplanned agenda in New York City, Sam happens to notice a pretty girl while he and Matt are visiting a local diner. This is the Farm Girl I assume, which appears to have a strong resemblance to famed hottie Tara Reid. The main difference was the spark of innocence in farm girl’s eyes. Now out of respect her name is Mary, but she just does happen to be a farm girl trying to live out her dreams in NYC.
Many months later Matt comes up with a scheme to meet chicks by holding fake auditions for absolutely no purpose other than to meet them in hopes of hooking up. Matt is pretty successful in his mission, Sam- not so much. Coincidently Mary shows up for the audition and this is where the real fun begins. Sam is completely enamored by her performance, so now he and Matt must use one of Sam’s scripts to create fake rehearsals.
The movie become slightly intriguing with this kooky cast of characters, who all have no clue they’re just hanging out and reading one of Sam’s writing projects. As time passes by, Sam and Mary become better friends and spend more time together. Until, one day Mary walks in on a squabble between Sam and Matt and realizes the truth behind their acting outreach.
With every good romance, there comes a time to break up. Sam and Matt get the script embraced by a gay community; hence a real stage performance is born. Mary steps up to the plate and gets her chance to shine. Unfortunately, Allan, the main lead of the play gets hurt, so who better would know the lines than the writer to take over the part? The show must go on, and there’s not guessing on who is going to do it!
It is only in the meaning behind the words of Sam’s writing that he can confess his love for Mary. This movie has a happy ending like every other romantic comedy, but the difference is how they each get to that point. Maverick Entertainment chose to represent a short but sweet look at conquering love from a bumpy beginning to a warm and fuzzy ending. Curtain please.

Don’t worry; you won’t need an Urban Dictionary to decipher this urban flick. Director Richard Johnson makes sure you understand every piece of slang and clearly defines the who’s who of Razorblade City.
From the opening scene we witness street hustlers, crooked cops, and cracked heads. Razorblade City is a wild place! The plot centers around a drug dealer, “Kingston”, that runs into trouble with two of Razorblade City’s most notorious gangsters, King Leroy & Machine Gun Milton. After being framed for the murders of the gangsters’ loved ones, Kingston tries to lay low but it becomes impossible in a city of crime.
Even the women in Razorblade City are packing heat! This movie took a twist from other urban films by introducing us to Trix and Flix – two sisters that were partners in crime with Kingston. With Kingston on the run and two people dead, it sets off a frenzy throughout the town.
Out of all the movies I’ve seen recently, this one introduced me to the most interesting characters. And it actually pulled off keeping my attention and keeping me on track with multiple characters and storylines.
This movie serves as a cautionary tale that “anything, absolutely anything can happen in Razorblade City.”
Razorblade City is out today! Buy it, Rent it, or Queue it up!

As reality television continues to flood the airwaves, Razorblade City appears to offer a real life look inside a shoot em’ up gangster documentary. The soundtrack reflects words of wisdom about living a hard core life on the streets, and the flow of the music and its message are fluid throughout the film. I absolutely found entertainment in the character’s names like Fat Boys, Fly Ronnie Jones, King Leroy, Trix and Flix, Bling Bling and good ole Machine Gun Milton.
So the saying goes, it takes a village. Well, when one big time drug dealer’s son is accidentally shot in the head, you can bet someone is going to pay. There is this innate human nature to seek revenge when a loved one is hurt, and the strength behind these emotions are forceful. Our blood boils, our minds race with scenarios and ideas to impend harm. Bloodshed tears result in additional murders, like a domino effect on death.
Although this film has a typical setting of the low income jigsaw puzzle of the ghetto; curiosity creeps in with an invitation to watch cops try to unfold a wrinkled cover up of the initial killing. Cops play the game of befriending tattlers that are really just accomplices in this juncture. As the story line gets heated, I was tempted to shout out to the players like a fan at a sports event. I had flashbacks of Boys n the Hood and New Jack City, but the cinematography of Razoblade was non-traditional and up close on many of the scenes. It was almost like I felt I was in the room or on the streets trying to survive the mayhem myself and not get caught.
If you enjoy the reckless toting guns, drugs and a whole lotta hip hop chatter; don’t miss out on Razoblade City. Maverick Entertainment always delivers a variety of movies, with a genre to meet everyone’s interest. Look out for more films coming your way soon, and enjoy a first look at some of the next big actors and actresses as they get their first break on the big screen with Maverick!
Razorblade City is available on DVD December 7th, buy it, rent it, or queue it up today!

I’m back again with a new review of another one of Maverick Entertainment’s upcoming releases Fire. The movie is shot on location in Berlin, Germany! It involves political scandals, terrorists, bombs, and a bulging briefcase full of money.
The film was shot amazingly well; comparable to any film you’d see in theaters. Not to mention the all-star cast; Gary Dourdan (Phil) who starred in ‘CSI’ and Cosma Shiva Hagen (Nicole) who was in Speed Racer. Oh, I almost forgot, she was also a cover model for Playboy in Germany. Not too shabby, right? There are some great special effects, explosions, and car chases too.
It’s just another day for Phil and his wife Eve, who have just entered their neighborhood bank in hopes of being approved for a loan that will help them buy their dream home. Little does Phil know he’s about to become deeply entangled in a deranged political plot to ambush the city of Berlin. Terrorists have planned a horrific explosion, which will send the citizens into a fearful terrorist stricken frenzy. Citizens will be left vulnerable and afraid and Berlin will be looking to vote for a leader who can put a stop to terrorism. It’s up to Phil and Nicole, a local news reporter, to save the life of Phil’s beloved wife and the lives of thousands of German citizens.
Fire is available on DVD October 5th, but check it out on iNDemand (Comcast) starting October 1st!! See ya next time!

Prostitutes? Stalkers? Hallucinations of a cockney accented man always trying to give you food? Maverick Entertainment Group exposed me to such wild matters when they gave me a copy of Date For Hire to write about.
Date For Hire is, at its heart, a tale of three people living on the fringes of society. It covers a day in the life of a bartender and his two assistants as
one struggles with a lack of skill in wooing the ladies, another with far too much skill and an unexpected baby on the way, and the third so bereaved of any kind of ideas that he sets out to create the alcoholic beverage equivalent of LSD!
In many ways, it’s like Kevin Smith’s classic indie film breakout, Clerks, except it’s much more trippy. The movie is not constrained by much consistency and is a better piece of work for it. Prepare to be assaulted with every random thing under the sun that filmmaker Lee Cummings can possibly throw at you. It makes a contrast with the film’s mundane backdrop.
Date For Hire is available on DVD September 21, 2010. Buy it, Rent it, or Queue it up today!
